Tanning Bed Dangers & Precautions

Tanning bed dangers include the same as being exposed to the sun and therefore you should apply the same common sense when using tanning beds as you would with walking at the beach. The list of tanning bed dangers and precautions are :

1. Eye Damage May Occur...from direct exposure to the Sun or tanning beds, therefore you should also wear sunglasses outside and "tanning goggles" or other protective eyewear when using tanning beds.

2. Protect Children...young children are particularly vulnerable to UV exposure and so parents should keep plenty of sunscreen for kids when outdoors and set an age limit, like 16 or 17, for indoor tanning bed use.

3. Burning & Redness is skin damage...please understand that whether you are outside in the sun or in a tanning bed that when you feel "burning" or you can see "red" skin damage has occurred and it is already too late to do something about this!

Avoid sun burning or tanning bed redness is the future by understanding what skin type you have, what % of UVB you should be exposed to, and for how long. For example, if you have creamy, white skin, but tan very well...you still need to go in a 5% UVB device (typically a 20 min max bed) for only 8 minutes the first session or two.

Each tanning bed manufactured in the US today displays an "Exposure Label" which clearly states these guidelines and should be followed for SAFE tanning bed use.
